Hastings Man Takes Plea Deal in Death of 4 Year Old

Matthew Edwards

A Hastings man has taken a plea deal in the negligent death of his girlfriend's son.

According to the Hastings Tribune, 30–year–old Matthew Edwards pleaded no contest to negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury Tuesday afternoon in Adams County.

He could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Edwards' girlfriend, Amanda Pecor, still faces child abuse charges.

Police say Pecor's nine–year–old son shot and killed his four–year–old brother in April.

Edwards and Pecor were warned of the nine–year–old's recent behavior and were told to remove all guns from the house.
