Hastings Prepares to Light Up Its Streets
Hastings-The Celebration of Lights in Downtown Hastings has become a tradition in welcoming the holiday season to Hastings and the surrounding communities.
This year's Celebration of lights will be held on Thursday, November 15th from five to eight p.m. in Downtown Hastings. Santa Claus and Kool-Aid man will light the lights at 7:15 p.m.
Activities include the following:
- Horse-drawn-carriage rides and pony rides
- Live stage entertainment
- Light sticks and glow jewelry
- Giant inflatable children games area
- Pictures with Santa
- Specials in our downtown cafés and restaurants
- Carolers and a brass ensemble
- Hastings College music selections
- Specialty food vendors
- Bake sales, hot ciders and hot cocoa
There will be plenty of live entertainment all night, including: A proclamation from Mayor Vern Powers; The Longfellow Ambassadors; T-Dance; South Central Taekwondo; Danceworks; BoxCar Youth Theater; YWCA Dancers,and more.
Creighton nursing students will hold their annual bake sale during the Celebration of Lights and the winner of the five $100 Fall for Five Downtown Hastings Shopping Sprees will be announced.
Santa Claus will make an appearance that evening and will be downtown Thursday's and Saturday's through Christmas to listen to all the children's wish lists and for photo opportunities.
Those dates are: November 24th and 29th and December 1st, 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th and 22nd.
He will be there Thursday evenings from four to seven p.m. and Saturday afternoons from 11 a.m. to two p.m.
New this year is the CASA Semi Caravan. Decorated Semi Cabs will line 2nd street from Denver to St. Joseph.
In addition to the over 4 miles of white LED lights outlining the roofline, each light pole, street corner and merchant will be decorated with white lights.
