Turning a resolution into a lifestyle change, one local gym offers a 12 week challenge for those hoping to improve themselves.
From first measurements to a basic fitness test, the Hastings YMCA kicked off its fourth year of their Lose 2 Win challenge.
Throughout the course, participants will be finding different ways to improve habits or actions with incentives, journaling, weekly meetings with wellness coaches, and other activities throughout the YMCA.
Instructors say the new year is the best time to start. The program's goal isn't just about weight loss, but implementing lifestyle changes.
"For them to find what a healthy them means," said YMCA Wellness Director Erika Knott. "Healthy for all of us is something different, so for them to find that, that's kinda what our goal is for the program."
"I don't think they'll realize how much success they will have, you know," said second year challenger Nichole Bryant. "I thought yeah, maybe I could do it, but really it makes a big difference. So I think they'll realize once they get going that they really can do it."
The winner of the contest is based on the biggest percentage of body fat lost within the 12 weeks.
