Temperatures were feeling pretty comfortable as most kids were heading back to school the past few weeks, but just as students were settling into their new routine high temps came causing some schools to need to dismiss students early.

Students throughout the Midwest are getting out of school early as some areas are hit with triple-digit highs and some schools are feeling a lack of air conditioning in some classrooms.

Schools in Nebraska and some other neighboring Midwestern states dismissed students early on Monday, before temperatures could reach their expected near triple-digit highs.

School administrators cite safety concerns for students and teachers located in classrooms where air conditioning systems don't quite reach.

The National Weather Service says a prolonged heat wave of this magnitude is unusual for this time of year, but not unprecedented.
