First lady Sally Ganem gave Heineman a helping hand, pouring the icy water over his head Wednesday. In a video of the challenge, the governor says he was called out by not only Marylyn, but also by Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball coach John Cook.
To complete the event, Heineman challenged Omaha World-Herald Publisher Terry Kroeger, KETV news anchor Rob McCartney, and KFAB radio personality Jim Rose.
In addition to the icy shower, Heineman announced a $100 donation to the Nebraska chapter of the ALS Association.
As part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, individuals are challenged to donate to The ALS Association within 24 hours or have a bucket of ice water poured on them. Often, people choose to do both.
According to The ALS Association, the ice bucket challenge has raised approximately $31.5 million, so far.
