Heineman's Plane Request Still Up in the Air
Gov. Heineman's plan to buy a plane with state dollars is still up in the air.
The governor says his $2.2 million budget request to buy an airplane is essential because of the need to reach rural parts of the state quickly.
Heineman says the plane would ensure that he and other state officials are accessible to residents when needed and claims a state-owned plane is more cost-efficient than relying on a charter service.
The legislature's appropriations committee doesn't seem to agree and has declined his request for now.
