Help Available for Older Nebraskans Looking for Work
There's a local resource available forolder residents in Nebraska might be having difficulty finding a job.
The Experience Works Community ServiceEmployment Program (SCSEP) is a nonprofit organization operating in Nebraskawhich provides seniors with work opportunities. The program offers paidcommunity service assignments at local public and non-profit organizations,training, referral to needed services, and job search assistance for eligible individuals.
The hope is that with the updatedskills they gain in the program, the participants will use their communityservice training as a springboard to permanent jobs with local employers.
The Experience Works SCSEP is currentlyaccepting applications. Program applicants must be age 55 or older, unemployed,live in one of the 82 Counties served by SCSEP, and have gross income of$14,588 per year or less for a family of one, $19,663 for family of two.
"In this difficult economy, many olderNebraskans are finding it necessary to find work," says Ann Rouch, NebraskaState Program Manager, for Experience Works.
"Unfortunately, finding a job can beespecially difficult for older workers who have not looked for employment forsome time or for those who been unsuccessful in their job hunt," she said. "Ourprogram is a stepping stone for people desperate for work. We can provideimmediate assistance and wages, for those who qualify for the SCSEP."
The program is sponsored by ExperienceWorks and Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services, Division ofMedicaid & Long Term Care, State Unit on Aging and SCSEP is available at nocost to people who meet eligibility criteria.
