The store features 350 different types of cheese, a sushi bar and a health center where people can get a check-up. The store director believes all 650 employees are needed.
“It takes a lot of people to do that, it takes a lot of people in different areas, 650 sounds like a lot but when you are in here and see the operation. You’ll understand why we need that many,” said Tony Taylor.
Other departments include a floral section, a cake department and a station where a professional can show customers how to cook different types of meals.
The store expects 50,000 customers the first week.
Attached to the grocery store is a casual upscale restaurant. The price of dinners will range from $10 to $20.
Hy-Vee will also have a gas station with 16 pumps.
