I-29 Construction Means an Uncertain Fate for Sioux City Arches

Sioux City residents are being asked to weigh in on the fate of the gateway arches.

Officials say the three concrete arches will have to be removed in order to widen I-29.

The 40 foot high arches were installed in 1980 to create a signature entry into downtown.

Residents can fill out an online survey asking if they'd like to see the arches moved, rebuilt or replaced.

Work on the downtown portion of I–29 is slated to begin in 2014.
