Pete Ricketts won the Republican nomination for governor by 2,100 votes, but did not win support in many of the rural counties. John Bruning, who came in just behind Ricketts, won the most counties with 32; Beau McCoy and Ricketts both won 26 counties each.

There were even a few counties where the Omaha businessman was not a top three choice. In Saunders, Saline and Pawnee counties, he finished fourth in votes. However, Ricketts won Douglas County, the most populous county in the state.

He also won four of the top five counties in Nebraska. Lancaster County, which covers Lincoln and surrounding communities was won by Mike Foley, who came in fourth statewide.

Ricketts also won Buffalo and Hall counties. State Senator Tom Carlson from Holdrege won Phelps County.

In the race for the U.S. Senate GOP nomination, Ben Sasse won 92/93 counties.
