The NWS says much of Nebraska is at moderate risk of storms on Tuesday, what they call a "very serious situation."
Tuesday afternoon, between 4 and 9 p.m. is the period forecasters say storms are most likely. The storm could bring hail at least the size of baseballs along with winds of 60-70 miles an hour.
The NWS also says there's the potential for "strong tornadoes". Storm chasers, and meteorologists from the Weather Channel have located in the Grand Island area, in anticipation of storms.
Coincidentally, the threat of tornadoes falls on the 34th anniversary of the Grand Island tornadoes. Seven tornadoes touched down on the night of June 3, 1980, killing five people.
Weather experts urge central Nebraskans to plan ahead. NTV has many resources on our severe weather page.
