July Trial Set for Grand Island Man Charged in Fatal Crash

A July trial has been scheduled for a Grand Island man charged with the crash death of his fiancee.

Johnny Alvarez, 30, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to vehicular homicide and had already pleaded not guilty to third offense drunken driving.

Authorities say Alvarez was driving on West Old Highway 30 when his car went out of control, hitting a guy wire and eventually slamming into a tree.

His passenger, 33–year–old Jamie Lohman Sandate, died at the scene. Alvarez had to airlifted to a Lincoln hospital.

His trial is set to begin July 7.
