June Sentencing Set for Man Accused in Sidney Man's Death

Theodore Medina

After pleading no contest to a reduced charge, a 24-year-old Sidney man accused of killing his former father-in-law is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Theodore Medina pleaded no contest to attempted assault on Tuesday. Prosecutors had lowered the charge and dropped a manslaughter charge in exchange for Medina's plea.

Cheyenne County authorities say officers had been sent to a Sidney home after someone reported a fight there between Medina and Ernie Ward. According to court documents, Medina lived with Ward despite no longer being married to one of his daughters.

Medina said Ward's head was injured when he picked up Ward and threw him down. Officers reported that Medina was performing CPR on Ward when they arrived.

Medina's sentencing has been set for June 17.
