The Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce has filled the open position of executive director.
Marion McDermott, of Kearney, has accepted the position recently left vacant by Jan Rodehorst and will assume the role beginning Feb. 18.
McDermott says she is excited to work in the Kearney community and is planning on working with the business community for many years to come.
Betty Warren, president of the board of directors, said the process to fill the position was not easy.
"We received many quality applicants and after reviewing them we felt that Marion was the most qualified person to lead our Chamber," said Warren. "She has a great deal of experience and her philosophy on the future direction of the chamber matched the board of directors."
McDermott spent nine years as executive director for the Ogallala/Keith County Chamber of Commerce before moving to Kearney and working at Armagost Financial Group.
She graduated in 2007 from the United States Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organizational Management, a professional development program of the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation. She studied advocacy, finance, human resources, membership, legal issues and all facets of managing a non-profit organization while there.
