Kearney Man Involved in Standoff Against Police Gets Probation
A 33-year-old Kearney man has been given probation after previously pleading no contest to charges stemming from a police standoff at a Kearney home.
Trenton Nielsen was sentenced to two years of probation and two years in prison, but the judge said the prison time would be suspended if Nielsen complies with his probation terms. He had pleaded no contest to three misdemeanors after prosecutors lowered the charges and dropped others.
Police say Nielsen held two relatives against their will in their home in November and threatened them with weapons. It took several hours before police were able to take Nielsen into custody.
