Kearney's sanitation department is set to resume yard waste collection services in April.

The city will pick up the yard waste once a week throughout the warm months. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, flowers, garden material, and tree trimmings less than one inch in diameter.

Residents who live south of Railroad Street or in East Lawn and Valley View Trailer Courts will have yard waste collected every Wednesday beginning April 2. Residents who live north of Railroad Street will have yard waste collected every Thursday beginning April 3.

Those who already have a container for yard waste don't need to do anything to reinstate service. Those wanting a container can call 308.233.3206. The service fee is $11.80 per month.

After the city picks up the waste, it is taken to the Kearney Area Solid Waste Agency Landfill where it is composted and made available to the public.

The city does ask that residents consider mulching grass clippings rather than using the yard waste pickup service. For more information of mulching, go here.
