Keeping Kids Healthy During Back-to-School Season

As students head back to school, reminders of ways to stay healthy may be the last thing on many parents' minds. However, the start of a new school year is a very important time to work on ways to stay healthy.

Two Rivers Public Health Department has a few tips on how to do just that:

Be sure your child is getting plenty of sleep. Allow some time before "lights out" to wind down to allow for a more restful evening.

Keep germs at bay by teaching your child to wash his/her hands after using the restroom and before meals. This is especially important at the start of a new year because of the increase in new exposures and the amount of sharing happening amongst students.

It is also important to keep your child home when he/she gets sick to keep those illnesses from spreading around the whole school.

Kids should also be given some free time to play or find a physical activity. However, too many activities may become stressful and exhausting for your child.

One last tip is to make sure your child's immunizations and checkups are all up to date.
