Kearney Public Schools has been selected as a first place winner in the 19th annual Magna Awards program, recognizing the district's programs that aim to advance student learning and encourage community involvement in schools.
KPS is being honored for their wellness program that has reduced the obesity rate among its grade school students by 13 percent. The program's goal was to increase physicalactivity and healthy eating among students.

The award is sponsored by the National School Boards Association's (NSBA) American School BoardJournal.
This year's three grand prize, 15first place, and 15 honorable mention winners were selected from threeenrollment categories: under 5,000 students, 5,000 to 20,000 students, and over20,000 students.
