Lang's last day will be June 27 after more than 30 years of working in state government.
“I want to thank Cathy for a long and distinguished career in state government,” said Gov. Dave Heineman Monday. “She has been a positive and outstanding leader for more than 30 years. Under her leadership, Cathy has built strong relationships between the programs of each agency."
The 57-year-old Lang was appointed as labor commissioner in 2008 and then as DED director in 2011. While in those positions, the Department of Labor implemented NEworks, the 24/7 Nebraska job website and mobile app; the Department of Economic Develop has opened a trade office in China; and both agencies have worked together to focus on the hiring and recruitment of veterans.
“The opportunity to serve both agencies and to build a strong network of collaboration between the systems that support economic growth and workforce development is the highlight of my career," Lang shared. "I want to thank the staff members of both agencies for the support that have provided to the combined mission to build a strong economy that supports great jobs in Nebraska.”
