'Time's up' -- so say state election commissioners to those hoping to get your vote in the May primaries.
Monday was the last day for candidates to file to run for local office.
The Buffalo County Election Office was busy with last minute filing, but officials say waiting to the last minute can bring some unwanted surprises.
"We've had a few surprised today that came in to file that didn't realize they had to pay a filing fee somewhere else, or they had additional paperwork to fill out besides the filing form," said Buffalo County Election Commissioner Lisa Poff. "So it's not always best to wait to the last minute."
Filers were busy in Hall County on Monday, too.
Just before the deadline, a third candidate filed for mayor in Grand Island, and he has a history of fielding a winning team.
Grand Island Senior High soccer coach Jeremy Jensen filed Monday. Jensen is a financial advisor.
In addition, every single seat on the Grand Island City Council and Hall County Board – except for councilman Vauhn Minton's – is now contested.
