Lincoln City Council Approves Ban of Some Outdoor Donation Huts
The Lincoln City Council has voted to ban outdoor donation huts run by for-profit companies after receiving complaints that donors were being misled about how much local charities were receiving from their donations.
The council voted 6-1 Monday to approve the ban.
Backers of the ordinance say that nearly 80 donation boxes are set up around Lincoln with the March of Dimes name listed prominently on the box. However, they say that the charity only receives about 10 percent of the revenue generated by the huts.
The company that runs the drop boxes, EZ Drop, has 90 days to remove the huts from Lincoln.
