Lincoln Highway Centennial Celebration Heads to Kearney
The Lincoln Highway Centennial Celebration is headed to Kearney.
The events will take place on June 30 through July 1. "The Bricks" in Downtown Kearney will host the festivities on Sunday, June 30. The event will start at noon with a variety of festivities including historical re-enactors and period music and food.
The Lincoln Highway Centennial Committee invites all antique, classic, stock and modified modes of transportation from local and national car clubs to be a part of the celebration on Sunday.
Registration is free and available at www.visitkearney.org/2013lincolnhighwaycelebration. Individuals are asked to select one of three options:
- Only Show & Shine;
- Participate in an informal parade to follow the Centennial Auto Tour parade at 1 p.m. on Central Avenue and then park for Show & Shine;
- Join the Lincoln Highway Association's Official Centennial Auto Tour in Grand Island or Lexington to parade into Kearney.
The Lincoln Highway Association's Official Centennial Auto Tour will include two significant antique vehicles which will be trailered to Kearney from the East Tour, a 1913 Stoddard Dayton and a 1916 Oldsmobile Model 44 V8 Roadster, amongst other unique cars.
The LHA official Centennial Celebration will take place July 1 at The Great Platte River Road Archway.
The Archway campus will host the Centennial Auto Tour vehicles, a parade of Packards, an early 1900's tourist camp and education camp, food and craft vendors and a gala that evening.
