Local Business Expands, Benefits at State Fair

Local businesses are benefiting from the Nebraska State Fair.

In its fifth year at the fair, the Grand Island-based Boat Dock has expanded from one lot to three.

That's enough room for a large pool that fairgoers can kayak in - all for free.

The Boat Dock's owner said he hopes it sparks interest in the activity.

He said the fair is already fueling his winter sales.

"We get exposure to the whole state with all of our different lines that we carry and the service that we provide and it has grown our business tremendously," said Jeff Westerby, owner of The Boat Dock.

The booth is also promoting Heroes on the Water - an organization that provides free kayak fishing trips to wounded service members and veterans.
