The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a motorcycle is dead after an accident Sunday afternoon east of Grand Island.

Chief Deputy Chris Rea says the accident happened around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 30 and Gunbarrel Road, right on the Hall-Merrick County line.

The department says a car driven by 59-year-old Constance Baasch was headed north on Gunbarrel Road, stopped at the stop sign, but pulled out in front of an oncoming motorcycle driven by 52-year-old Rodney Beckman.

Beckman, of Marquette, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baasch, of Grand Island was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center with minor injuries.

Law enforcement closed Hwy 30 for several hours to investigate. No charges have been filed at this time, but the accident remains under investigation. Authorities say alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor.

Grand Island Rural Fire and GIFD also responded to the accident. The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol are assisting.
