The McCook Civil Service Commission has upheld the decision to fire a former McCook police officer.

City Manager Jeff Hancock fired Officer Donald Smith Jr. in July after several alcohol-related incidents and poor performance.

Smith was reportedly involved in at least four alcohol-related incidents. He was suspended three times in 2010 and ordered to complete an alcohol evaluation.

In January 2012, Smith was investigated for misconduct. And in June, Smith had a blood alcohol level 0.119 after he called in sick for work.
