State Senator Amanda McGill wrapped upa statewide tour Sunday after announcing she'll run for state auditor earlierin the week.
McGill - who can no longer run forstate senate because of term limits - said she'd follow the lead of currentAuditor Mike Foley.
She said she'd also put new emphasis onwaste within the Department of Correctional Services, if elected.
"I'd like to work more collaborativelywith state agencies and the legislature to uncover more problems; and helpstate employees understand the importance of best practices and incorporatingthose in their businesses to make sure there aren't accounting mistakes andmake sure that there isn't embezzlement," she said. "I don't think our agenciesand departments and government need to feel like the auditor is always theirenemy, but someone who is there to help them do their jobs better."
McGill made stops in North Platte, Lexington,Kearney and Lincoln Sunday.
Auditor Foley has announced his runfor governor.
