Measure to Restore Benefits for Jobless Heading to the House


Legislation to resume long–term jobless benefits is headedto the House after a tough debate in the Senate.

The White House–backed measure would retroactively restorebenefits that were cut off in late December and maintain them through theend of May.

It has been estimated that as many as 2.3 million jobless workers have beendenied assistance since the law expired.

The measure's outlook remains cloudy however, as it took the measure three months to move through the Senate.
