Mother of Kearney Woman Killed in Crash Files Wrongful Death Suit
The mother of a Kearney woman killed after a dump truck crashed into her car has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the truck's driver.
Rebecca Addy filed the lawsuit last week in Lancaster County District Court against Lyle Carman, the driver, and the Carlos Lopez, the owner of Lopez Trucking.
Officials say Carman's truck struck 23-year-old Raven Addy-Cruz's car June 7 on Interstate 80 in Lincoln. She died two days after the accident.
Her husband and daughter were also in the car. Edgar Cruz suffered many injuries including eight broken ribs, and their 13-month-old daughter, Hazel, suffered a broken leg putting her in a cast for eight weeks.
Prosecutors allege Carman, 56, was under the influence of meth at the time of the accident.
Carman pleaded not guilty last month to manslaughter in connection with the crash. He is awaiting trial.
