Monday night the United States Senate voted66-to-27 in favor of a new farm bill.
The five-year, half-trillion-dollar billwould expand government subsidies for crop insurance while making small cuts inthe food stamp program.
It also includes programs to shieldfarmers from sharp changes in market prices for crops like corn, wheat andrice.
The house is still working on its ownversion of a farm bill. Once their version is voted on the senate and the housewill meet in a committee to prepare a final version of a farm bill.
