Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale will be touring the state to launch his 2014 re-election bid.

Gale announced plans Thursday to hold events in Lincoln, Grand Island, North Platte and Scottsbluff Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gale has served as Nebraska's Secretary of State since 2000, when he was appointed by then-Gov. Mike Johanns as the 26th Secretary of State. He has since been elected to three additional terms.

While in office, Gale has worked to improve the state election system, increase online access for Nebraska businesses and streamline records management for state agencies.

Gale practiced law in North Platte for 29 years before he was appointed to office. He also worked as a legislative assistant to former U.S. Sen. Roman Hruska of Nebraska, and as an assistant U.S. attorney in Omaha and Lincoln.

He and his wife, Carol, have three children.
