The U.S. Department of Agriculture updated its crop report for Nebraska Monday.

The harvests for both soybeans and corn are ahead of schedule and reportedly below par in quality.

The corn harvest is about a month ahead of schedule with about 53 percent of the crop harvested. However only around 32 percent of the corn is considered to be in good or excellent shape. The normal amount of corn in the good or excellent category is about 78 percent.

Around half of the soybean crop has also been harvested, at about 48 percent. Normally only about 16 percent of the crop would be harvested at this time.

Only 19 percent of the soybeans harvested are considered to be in good or excellent shape, which is well under the 78 percent it usually averages. Many farmers are reporting difficulties with dry pods and green stems.
