The Nebraska State Treasurer's Office has released the 2013 Unclaimed Property Report, which added the names of people with unclaimed property from calendar year 2012 through January 2013 to those from previous years.
According to State Treasurer Don Stenberg, his office is holding more than $125 million for more than 350,000 Nebraskans and former Nebraskans.
Stenberg urges all Nebraskans to check the report to see if the office may be holding something of theirs. "The search iswell worth the time and effort," said Stenberg. "Many people are surprised at what they find andare grateful for the service."
To check the report, go to www.treasurer.org.
Stenberg said January was a particularly productive month for his office. He reported that the Unclaimed Property Division returned $1.2million to rightful owners in just that month alone.
Stenberg said many of those receiving property were able to put it to good use. "Money they didn't know they had went topay bills, buy season basketball tickets, repair a sewer line, celebratestudents' grades, and improve a rural community," he said.
