Nebraska's Monthly Unemployment Rate Remains Steady

The Nebraska Department of Labor has released Nebraska's preliminary unemployment rate for December.

The state is holding steady at 3.7 percent, seasonally adjusted. December's rate is the same as November's but down from the same time last year, when the unemployment rate was sitting at 4.2 percent.

"Nebraska's stable and diverse economy has contributed to a steady, and consistently low, unemployment rate," said Commissioner of Labor Catherine Lang.

Nebraska ranks well below the national average of 7.8 percent for December, also unchanged from November.

Preliminary rates show the unemployment rate of the Kearney area up to 3 percent compared to 2.5 percent in November.

The Hastings area also saw a slight increase from 3.1 percent in November to 3.7 percent in December.

However, rates in Grand Island are down to 3.7 percent compared to the 3.8 percent in November.
