In a report released Friday, the Nebraska Department of Labor says the state's preliminary unemployment rate inched up a tenth of a point in February, hitting 3.6 percent.

Catherine Lang, commissioner of the Labor Department, says that though the unemployment rate saw a slight increase, the labor force also grew by nearly 3,000 people -- a positive sign.

Additionally, Nebraska's unemployment rate remains well below the national rate of 6.7 percent in February and is lower than Nebraska's 4 percent unemployment rate last February.

The Grand Island micropolitan statistical area also saw an increase of one-tenth of a point in February, to 3.9 percent. Meanwhile, the Hastings and Kearney micropolitan statistical areas remained unchanged at 4.1 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively.
