Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska says no other negotiation meetings are planned for this weekend before their contract with Catholic Health Initiatives expires on September 1.

This means that people who visit certain doctors or hospitals in Nebraska associated with CHI Health will have to pay more if they have insurance from Blue Cross, including patients at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island and CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.

BCBS says the problem is with Omaha hospitals and physicians charging 10 to 30 percent more than other providers. CHI Health says those figures are misleading and it believes its total cost of treatment is lower, even if certain services cost more.
