      No Pink Shirts On Duty for G.I. Firefighters

      Grand Island firefighters can't weartheir special pink shirts while on duty.

      Firefighters created a pink breastcancer awareness shirt as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.

      The shirts cost $20-dollars each andthe proceeds go to a mammogram fund to aid women who cannot afford to get one.The firefighters planned to wear them to raise awareness and money for thecause.

      Grand Island Fire Chief Cory Schmidt saidOctober is also fire prevention safety month and he believes it's important tohave firefighters in their regular uniforms.

      He said they'll be giving educationaltalks to area schoolchildren and the public and wanted them to be in uniform.
