The North Platte City Council has approved committing $4 million toward the city's bid to land the new state veterans home.

The council voted unanimously on Tuesday night to grant the funding request from the North Platte Chamber and Development Corp.

The state will be considering proposals from four central Nebraska cities for the $120 million home that is to replace the aging Grand Island Veterans Home.

In addition to North Platte, the cities in the running are Grand Island, Hastings and Kearney.

The Grand Island City Council has approved a $3 million bid and Kearney is rumored to have allotted $1.5million for their bid, but so far Hastings hasn't mentioned any numbers regarding their bid.

The Legislature Appropriations Committee has set aside $47 million for the project in the upcoming state budget.
