North Platte Man Gets Prison in Upland Child Prostitution Case
A North Platte man has been sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who was being prostituted by her mother.
Zachary Schmidt, 26, was sentenced on Friday in Buffalo County District Court after pleading no contest to the charge.
Prosecutors say Schmidt had sex with the girl in Kearney between Feb. 1 and March 31 last year. He had been charged in Franklin County, but had that charge dropped as part of a plea bargain.
Schmidt was one of several men charged with having sexual contact with the 14-year-old girl after arranging it with her mother, Michelle Randall.
Randall has been sentenced to 92 to 120 years in prison for prostituting her teen daughter and her 7-year-old in Buffalo, Franklin and Furnas counties.
