North Platte Man Pleads No Contest in Bicyclist's Death

A North Platte man accused of killing a bicyclist last year and then fleeing the scene has pleaded no contest.

Michael Malmkar, 21, pleaded no contest Tuesday to the vehicular homicide of cyclist Levern Walter.

Authorities say Malmkar his 56-year-old Levern Walter and his wife, Robert, 56, while they were riding their bikes south of North Platte in June 2011. Levern Walter died of his injuries and Roberta Walter was treated at the hospital.

Malmkar is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 25.
