Police in North Platte are hoping to make the holidays a little brighter for some local families, but they say they need the public's help.

According to the North Platte Police Department, their Santa Cop program receives no tax payer dollars and is only funded through monetary donations from members of the community.

The program provides Christmas gifts to local children in need, in the hopes of ensuring every child in the community has a merry Christmas.

Officials are asking community members to send donations to: Santa Cop, P.O. Box 1458, North Platte, NE 69103.

The police department's main office will no longer be accepting applications for participation in the program. Applications can instead be obtained from various agencies and churches in the community.
