North Platte to Host Feb. Wind Energy Symposium
A Feb. 12 symposium aims to provide education and initiate aconversation on the appropriate siting of wind energy farms in Nebraska.
Sponsored by the Sandhills Task Force, "Siting of Wind Energy inNebraska" will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by 3 p.m. at the Quality Innand Suites Sandhills Convention Center in North Platte.
The symposium is co-sponsored by Universityof Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, Nebraska Cattlemen, Nebraska Grazing LandCoalition and Western Nebraska Bank andthe Nature Conservancy.
The one-day symposium will provideinformation in a balanced pro and con format, representing various viewpointsimportant to landowners, rural communities and Nebraska's natural resources. Itis open to the public and will give an overview of wind energy development inNebraska, implications of wind energy development for natural resources andimplications of wind energy for people.
Landowners, farmers and ranchers, community public policy andbusiness leaders are encouraged to attend.
Presentations and topics range from Balancing Economic Developmentand our Natural Resources to Wind Energy Development Plans in Nebraska andpanel discussion of landowner and local community perspectives.
Registration is $15 by Feb. 5. After Feb.5 through the day of the symposium, registration is $25. Walk-ins will beaccepted. To register, visit go.unl.edu/windenergyconference.
