In an effort to keep kids out of trouble, many communities provide after school activities for kids, but some in North Platte say there simply isn't enough funding or resources to provide enough options for kids.
North Platte's recreational center gets a lot of traffic after school with swimming, basketball, and other activities, but sometimes the space is limited or even closed to the public because of evening leagues.
Officials say they try to keep things as affordable as possible.
"Being owned by the city, it's made cheaper. We try to keep prices as low as we can," said Rec Center's Jerry Berglund. "But I mean, with utilities going up every year, price goes up. It affects all of our price on everything."
Berglund adds there still needs to be more affordable activities for kids.
