NSP Cracks Down on Drunk Drivers this Season
Lincoln –The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) has made plans to crackdown on impaired drivers this holiday season.
Their special enforcement willbegin Friday and run through the start of the New Year.
NSPwill take part in a national effort designed to raise awareness of the dangersof impaired driving. The "You Drink & Drive, You Lose" campaign is designedto remove impaired drivers from roadways and to remind motorists to never getbehind the wheel after drinking.
"Safetyon our roads is a shared responsibility," said Colonel David Sankey, superintendentof the NSP. "We hope all motorists will join with us in helping to prevent alcoholrelated crashes and fatalities by choosing to never drive impaired."
Driverswill see an increase in high visibility patrols and DWI checkpoints during theholidays. NSP plans to focus most of their efforts on time periods in whichalcohol related activities are considered to be the highest.
Impairedor reckless drivers can be reported by dialing 911 or through the NebraskaState Patrol Highway Helpline by dialing *55 when safe to do so from anycellular phone or 1-800-525-5555 from any landline.
Colonel Sankey said, "If youchoose to celebrate, do so in a safe responsible manner, always have adesignated driver and never get behind the wheel impaired."
