Omaha Couple Jailed in North Platte on Robbery Charges

An Omaha couple has been jailed in North Platte after police were called to the Kwik Stop on South Jeffers street in North Platte Saturday evening on reports of an armed robbery.

An employee told the North Platte Police Department that a man came into the store, walked behind the counter and stuck something hard against her side while demanding she open the cash register. The suspect, later identified as Marcus Thomas, then allegedly proceeded to take $150 from one register and then another $75 from a second drawer.

Officials say though the employee never witnessed a weapon on Thomas' person, witnesses inside the store say they did see Thomas with what appeared to be a handgun.

It wasn't long after police identified Thomas and his vehicle -- a black Dodge Durango -- that they were able to stop the 35-year-old Omaha man in the Fat Dog's parking lot.

Thomas' wife, Tamara Thomas, was in the car with her husband. Both were taken into police custody.

Officers learned that in addition to the money taken from the gas station, clothing and a BB handgun allegedly used in the robbery were stolen from Walmart earlier in the day.

Marcus Thomas was jailed on charges of robbery and shoplifting. Tamara Thomas was jailed on a charge of aiding and abetting a robbery.

The couple remained at the Lincoln County Detention Center as of Monday morning.
