      Omaha Sen. Pete Pirsch Announces Run for Attorney General

      State Sen. Pete Pirsch announced plans to run for Nebraska attorney general Friday, following closely behind current Attorney General Jon Bruning's decision to run for governor.

      Pirsch said Bruning's decision provided "the opportunity for me to utilize my experience, abilities and interestin a manner that will best serve the people of the state ofNebraska."

      He says now is the right time to move on to a new level of public service. He has served in the Nebraska Legislature for the past eight years, representing his Omaha district.

      Additionally, Pirsch had previously served as a criminal prosecutor for the city of Omaha and as a member of the Nebraska Crime Commission.

      "My passion for public service and my uniqueexperience have provided me with the tools to be highly effective as Nebraska'sChief Law Enforcement Officer," Pirsch said.

      As of Feb. 13, the only other person in the race for the attorney general seat is Lincoln lawyer Doug Peterson.
