Over 7,000 Pounds Collected in Drug Take-Back
More than 7,000 pounds of unwanted prescription medications were collected during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back day, which took place on April 27.
The Nebraska State Patrol, Grand Island and Lincoln police departments participated in the event and collected around 7,400 pounds of unused medications to dispose of in a safe manner.
Attorney General Jon Bruning says more than 28,000 pounds of unwanted prescription medications have been collected across the state since 2011.
Last year a record-breaking 276 tons of unwanted or expired medications were turned in to 5,659 sites across the United States.
Communities across central Nebraska that participated in the event include: Alma, Franklin, Holdrege, Kearney, Lexington and Grand Island.
