Pets Get Own Strain of Flu

Humans aren't the only ones getting sick around this time of year.

Cats and dogs can't get the human strain of the flu, but do have their own version of the flu.

If a dog gets sick, it can spread to other canines, and a virus in animals is tough to diagnose.

"It's a difficult disease to really get a handle on. So far it seems it's not mutating in dogs like it has in people," said veterinarian Dr. Dave Christensen. "So the main thing is to stay clean between animals, wash hands and that kind of thing."

If your pets' cough is getting worse, take it to the vet right away.
