Play it Forward Project Aims to Give All Children a Chance to Play Sports
Membersof the University of Nebraska Student Government are developing a communityservice project called Play It Forward on the UNK campus and Kearney communitywhich will kick off Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Loperbasketball game.
Membersof Student Government will be collecting used sporting equipment starting Feb.27 and accepting goods until the end of the school year. The sportingequipment will be donated to the local Special Olympics. Cash donations arealso accepted.
Binswill be set up throughout campus in the Nebraskan Student Union, CushingColiseum, and West Center where any equipment or apparel can be deposited. ThePlay It Forward organization began in Texas by a group of students who decidedthey wanted to give back to their local community. Donations are used to ensureevery child has an opportunity to play sports, even if they are unable toafford equipment. The UNK campus will be the first collegiate campus toparticipate in this community service event.
