Nebraska's unicameral Legislature will open session Wednesday, and one of the new topics of discussion will relate to the privileges violent criminals receive while incarcerated.
Mayor Jim Suttle and other Omaha officials will discuss the new legislation that looks to place limitations on good time privileges for violent criminals at a press conference Tuesday.
The legislation would require corrections officials to notify police in metropolitan cities when inmates are being furloughed. It would also limit privileges for inmates convicted of gun crimes and gang related crimes, as well as repeat violent crime offenders.
The legislation will be introduced by Sen. Burke Harr and Sen. Pete Pirsch.
