Grand Island community members will get a chance to see the proposed Grand Island Downtown Revitalization Plan and ask questions about the project.
The presentation will be held Tuesday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Grand Theatre, 316 W. Third St.
AlleyPoyner Macchietto Architectural Design Firm, lead consultants forthe project, will be giving the presentation and then answering questions about the plan.
Community Development Administrator Marco Floreani said, "The plan is a visionof how downtown Grand Island can be revitalized and includes many strategies inmaking downtown a more vibrant and active place in our community." Input from the community has already been taken and combined with the design firm's ideas to make the current plan.
The city of Grand Island would like to hear input about the presentation from all citizens, not just downtown business owners and residents.
The presentation will also be shown at the city council meetinglater that same night at 7 p.m. Citizens are also invited to attend thismeeting or watch the presentation on Grand Island Television, Charter Communicationschannel 6 or analog 56. A live stream of the presentation will also be available at www.grand-island.com/gitvstreaming.
Phase one of the planning process will be complete with the presentation of the Downtown Revitalization Plan. Phase one included $30,000 in grant funding as part ofa Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Nebraska Department ofEconomic Development (NDED), with a $20,000 match from the city of Grand Islandand Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) #8.
Phase twowill be the implementation of the plan. As part of this phase, the cityof Grand Island will submit a $350,000 grant application for implementationfunds for elements of the Downtown Revitalization Plan. The grant will besubmitted to the NDED at the end of March.
